Default 1995 Chevy Beretta Cigarette Lighter Blowing Fuse

Hey, I own a 1995 Chevrolet Beretta and I have some problem with the cigarette lighter blowing my 20 AMP fuse.

I took it to a mechanic and he told me that it was a bad cigarette lighter unit (the whole thing, not just the actual cigarette lighter). I bought one that says it is compatible with my car at AutoZone, brought it to him, he installed it, but it still wont work right.

Before it was like no power is going to it, now whenever I put something into it it almost instantly blows the fuse.

He said that the power the cigarette lighter was receiving was good, meaning probably not a wire problem.

Any ideas what it could be? Do I need to maybe buy a Chevrolet cigarette lighter unit that is made by them?

No, it sounds like you got an electrical problem.

Trace the wires from the lighter check that they not shorting out. Also check that the earth wire is making good contact.

Turns out we had 2 bad brand new cigarette lighters, had to drive a bit to find a different one, but once we got it and installed it, it worked fine.

Thanks.
