My dad is buying me a car for graduation. I want manual transmission because I heard it saves on gas and is cheaper to repair, but my dad doesn't think manual saves that much gas. Am I silly for going with manual simply for the money saved on gas? Should I just go with automatic?

Well, the manual doesn't save fuel automatically; it depends on how you drive it. If you're going to pull high revs then your feual economy is going to suffer. Also, electronic automatic transmissions have come a long way and are better tuned for economy.
Having said that, the manual is way more fun to drive ![]() |

there are many things to consider when it comes to the tranmission. without any question the most fun is the manual tranmission and despite the previous posts, a manual tranmission does save gasoline. plus they are cheaper to repair and they last longer than automatic tranmissions. on any case, if you are just a newbie to driving then i suggest you go with an automatic till you have more driving experience. if you already have basic driving experience then go with the manual. it is not silly of you to want the manual, it is smart

If you dont have enough experience driving, get an automatic. Furthermore you will have your other hand free to make things to...!!

Go with the manual as it will keep your one hand busy and probably save you from texting while driving.

man, i would definitely go with the manual. i used to drive automatic and i'd never go back after buying a manual. they're more fun, and i feel like i drive more safely as i give more attention to the road because i have to keep shifting. you can also, as some of the above posts mentioned, control how good your gas mileage is by how you drive and when you shift. you'll love it, go for it.
