Default What are the advantages and disadvantages of owning Reva, the electric car?

Crude oil price have increased tremendously. The price inflation rate is almost 100% in 6 months and predictions are that it may touch 200 to 250$ a barrel. With this in mind, the interest in hybrid/electric cars is getting more attention. What would be the pros and cons of buying the only one available in India in the electric car segment: the Reva?

Sorry, I don't have an answer, just a curious question. How much is the price for a regular gasoline gallon in India?

$200 to $250 a barrel is too much dude! Here in US the average price for a barrel is between $50 and $80, right now is like seventy something.

Some of the cons are the range on these things. They don't go very far on a fully charged battery. Also are there recharging points at garages?

Other problem is that the batteries can only be charged so many times so there is a limit to battery life and they're a major expense so replacing them can be an issue.

Take the range and multiply it by the number of times the batteries can be recharged. Then you'll have an idea of when you need to replace the batteries. You can also find out how much the batteries cost so that you can measure it against the cost of fuel.

The Reva is a great car to own now.
Pros:
1. It doesn't need any petrol/diesel.
2. It's doesn't need much maintenance.
3. It's easy to drive, especially in narrow, overcrowded Indian roads.

Cons:
1. It's not a very fast car.
2. It can seat only 2-3 people.

Advantages:- You save your pockets ...and needn't worry about the rising prices of Gasoline. Also makes less noise compare to Petrol or Diesel or CNG or LPG vehicles so a smooth silent ride.
Disadvantages:- Cannot have it for a much longer ride around 1000 kms. The pick up is a major issue with electronic vehicles...you may find it difficult to climb ghats with this mini...
so check out and ride safe...

I can only imagine only one disadvantage of buying an electric car. The problem lies in charging the car as there are limited number of places where they can be charged!!

No matter what the price of the gasoline is. We have to think, this is our natural products. Today or tomorrow this will come to an end. So we have to try to save gasoline as much as we can. In that sense i think electric car would be better..,
