Used to be you could get a 6 - 12 inverter out of JCWhitney, but don't think
so now. I'm sure they are out there somewhere and probably about a hundred bucks now. And they would probably handle a couple amps current draw. If you are planning anything more like a super stereo with a hundred watts a channel, forget that. If it were me I'd find a place to mount a small sealed gel cell and run just the radio off of it. Call you local battery distributor and ask for an alarm system sealed gel cell. For under $50 you could get something that would handle a regular stereo for probably 8-10 hours or so. Then you have to put a charger on it. You could use a cheap solar charger or trickle charger. I ran a Yuasa 12 volt battery for sometime and they hold up really well. Don't forget a power switch. Try this site: http://www.batteryweb.com/yuasa.cfm Best if you could do the change over much easier because so many people are doing that. Dan -- J. Thanks for the info. I was thinking about using a motorcycle battery,,
didn't know about the alarm system battery,, I'm going to look for one,, I've thought about switching to 12 volt, it would make things easier,, I even went out and bought a wiring harness, but I get many comments at local shows about how nice it is to see something all original,, so I guess I'll keep it 6 volt for now,,,,,,,,, thanks for your help,, appreciate it............. johnnie:-) "J. Check out batteryweb.com. They have a slew of batteries in all sizes
and amp hour ranges. I was able to get replacement batteries for a couple of older computer UPS units as well as an alarm system from them. Their prices seem reasonable and shipping was fast. I had a 40 chevy master deluxe Coupe years ago. I went nuts looking for the ashtray in that car. It had the cigar lighter with the glass insert which glowed when the element was hot. So I naturally figured that it should have an ashtray too. It took me about a year to learn that if you got a radio, which was an expensive option then, that they removed the huge ashtray and installed the radio in that opening. ![]() Tim johnnie:-) wrote: > Thanks for the info. Their stuff looks great, but it costs a lot more than a portable radio that plays the 100's of old cassettes that I still have. Batteries are no longer a concern since I bought a 12 volt DC to 115 volt AC inverter [at Walmart] and now just plug and play... If I want to hear CD's, my Discman plugs into the portable radio with a patch cord, and the AC adaptor plugs into the inverter right next to the plug for the radio... And my dash still looks stock and original. -'dreas |
