Yes there are some electric cars around that can run by themselves. However speed and distance is limited. Technology will have to get better if they are to work with out a petrol engine. |

the solutions are being developed as we speak and the overriding factor is replenishment of the batteries charge whilst in motion, i.e. kinetic energy from moving parts (wheels etc), solar energy (what little we get) from sunroofs and panels, Also there is a range of super capacitors in development that take this energy and stores it to replenish the batteries, all in all it is early days but yes the foreseeable future seems to be electric. |

Electric cars is a really good idea, but they are a bit expensive when it comes to the cost. Its maintenance cost is also comparatively higher than fuel powered cars. I would say aim for a semi electronic car. You might want to read something about Toyota Belta

I fall back on my favourite soundbite that really gets people thinking and it is the illusion of perpetual motion, perpetual motion is impossible but the illusion of perpetual motion is not, I'll be honest and put my hands up, I make the statement to fuel debate and in my lifetime no one has presented a credible example that I have not blown apart, usually because at some point the examples have moving contact parts which in time will wear out, I digress, we can tip our hats to the laptop, mobile phone and ipad brigade for their development of the battery, when you talk about maintenance just think ahead 10 or 20 years and envisage swapping your batteries over in the same way you swap your laptop battery and your batteries are the size of a small briefcase, and in the same way as flash drives score over sata drives, the less moving contact parts the less maintenance you have, yes? Quid pro quo, as Hannibal Lecter would say. |
